For the longest time I waited to hear her call me MeeMee.
Not sure Olivia understood what being a MeeMee means. So at every Caillou episode where his grandparents made an appearance, I took advantage to assure her she too had a grand-mom.
That's me, pointing to my chest, and then pointing to her saying, " you have a grand-mom too Olivia, its me"! Her bright eyes sparkled. But I knew when she turned her head to watch her boyfriend, Caillou she either did not care or really did not understand. I was hoping for the latter.
Okay then!
I tried to share with my beloved grand-daughter that Sid the Science Kid also also had a Grand-mom that would pick Sid from school every afternoon. "Yay", following a quick smile and a turn of the head. I was lost, I could not come up with any more examples for Olivia.
Her Daddy is her hero. Everything is about her Daddy, like the truck he drives. When she spots a truck like a daddy's, she yells with excitement from the back car seat, "DADDY"! "Olivia, I love your outfit today your shirt is so cute." She replies, "Dadddddyyy"! Yea I know Olivia.
Then there is her Mommy!~ She <3's her mommy too! Mommy this Mommy that! Okay, Olivia but your grand mom loves you!
Oh, can I tell you, her Pop is her best friend. They play, No my ball, Olivia jumps on his belly, they play knock knock on the wall. She screams with delight...Pop Pop Pop...!!!
Guess what, she loves this I know...she gives me kisses, she hugs me, we snuggle reading her favorite book, we play, we fly, we dance all day! But until yesterday she never called me MeeMee. When I heard her say, MeeMee my heart leaped!!!
After all when I show her pictures of all her extended family on facebook, she knows all their names! Nana, Pappy, Nanny, Pop, Wyan, Lilly, Nanan, Shell, Leah, Briggie, Lexi her cousin in KY even! Knox, her cousins dog is even recognized.
Of course, I am only slightly kidding when I share that my effort to get Olivia to understand my role as the Grand-mom being called MeeMee was a lift to my ego. Well, finally she now address me as MeeMee and is very serious when she does! MeeMee, read this book? I potty! MeeMee, fly with me...(jumping on the floor) dance . MeeMee Caillou...Caillou...blanket night night.
Can't wait for Olivia to wake up from her nap today! I want to know what Olivia has in store and planned for her MeeMee this afternoon!
I love my two grand-daughters Lexi and Olivia and can't wait till my little grand-son Liam is born sometime this summer. I love being their MeeMee! I just hope I can live up to the expectation to Caillou and Sid's grandmom!
